I have been shopping like crazy lately and I told myself last week that I must stop. Background. About two weeks ago, I purchased some YSL sandals for a steal. Now, the YSL at a steal was not an inexpensive purchase but the shoes were 70% off. No buyer's remorse whatsoever but I knew I needed to tighten the reigns just a bit.

So today, at lunch I came across these from Shopbop and got excited. I mean, look at that price.

But, while I am in the market for another pair of skinnies (I only own one pair), I was able to just say no. If they had been another brand, like AG or Citizens, I would have bought them without a second thought. Also, I'm not familiar with the fit of Community Denim so I was willing to let this deal pass. However, if I look back at Shopbop on Friday, payday - yayday, and these are still available, then I will purchase them. If not, it wasn't meant to be. Yay for restraint.

2 Year Cotton

My husband and I just celebrated our 2 year wedding Anniversary on Sunday. We went to a great dinner at Kirby's in Southlake on Saturday night. What a treat. So far, I love being married and I recommend it.

I really liked my makeup. I wore eyeliner on the bottom - I never do that but I will start.

Blogging Frenzy

Well, I've been a blogging frenzy lately and here I go again. 2 in one day.

We all know about personal style blogs, Style Bubble and Sea of Shoes but what about Nini's Style? Unlike the aforementioned blogs, which I love to read, I would actually wear most of Nini's wardrobe. Her style tends to be edgy but super stylish and wearable (although for me, not too affordable, ). And her pics are cool and editorialish. And she lives in Dallas!

I like her style.

I of the Beholder

While reading an article on MSNBC.com this morning, I came across this great quote form Stephen Gan of V Magazine, “In this world, when a girl’s called ‘beautiful,’ sometimes my reaction to that is: In what terms? In fashion terms? Beauty pageant terms? Real people terms? I wish I could just say, ‘She’s beautiful,’ and leave it at that.”

This is exactly how I think. My "categories" of beauty run the gambit from,
beautiful (Angleina Jolie, Catherine Deneuve),

pretty (Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson),

average looking but people are being nice by saying she's pretty (Jennifer Anniston, Reese Witherspoon)

to a bit harder on the eyes but managed to be a public figure despite how they look (Paris Hilton, Michelle Obama).

Why do I do this? Why do people do this? I really don't care about what people look like b/c for the most part, you can't change what God gave you without looking like an alien. It's just that people's views, opinions and perceptions are so different. I never really understood Beauty Pageants when half the time a not so pretty girl would win. So when people would argue that they objectify women, I think not really b/c that girl didn't win off of her looks. Snarky but that's how I think.

What really gets me is the celebrity obsession about this beautiful girl and that hot guy when when a lot of super famous celebrities are not that pretty or handsome - certainly not prettier than the average "real" person (although they probably have better bodies, lol).

It's just so complex. Bottom line is everyone is beautiful for being a child of God and beauty is not only about looks. When you make it about looks, it gets tricky and I guess aesthetic beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Snugglé Bouclé

Dallas/Ft. Worth is seeing some super cold weather this winter and I prepared for this but re-upping my sweater game. My favorite and warmest sweaters from this season are from Victoria's Secret. They are from their Bouclé Collection and they are snugglie warm and very cute. I admit that for the last couple of years I believed Bouclé to be passé (are you loving my use of the accent aigu?), however with the addition of the Mutton Sleeve v-neck as seen below. I thought I would give it a try in the Sable Heather color. It is so warm. And I needed warm. I also bought the Peplum Cardigan, also below. It's cute. I got a lot of compliments on that one. Damn Angel Card making me spend money...

Last year was great. This one will be too. I have a thing for even numbers so 2010 is right up my alley. The Holiday Season is my favorite time of year. All the gifts and the giving and the shopping and the family. All the days off and yummy food and friends. Amazing.

For Christmas, my husband gave me the bag that was on my wishlist:

Marc by Marc Jacobs Bombay Satchel

I love it. The leather smells insane. I have looked for over a year to find the perfect black handbag and this was the winner. I know some are very against Marc by Marc Jacobs handbags these days but I'm a loyal customer. Thanx, honey!

I spent Christmas morning snowed in but on Boxing Day (the 26th), the Cochran's (my dad's family) had a GTG at the Dallas Athletic Club. We had a blast. Great food and even Christmas Caroling. My family can sing!

So awesome. If I have to make some resolutions (I know I don't but play along), then here are a few:

1) Lose weight - so original.
2) Do more - Go out more - Be more social
3) Have an amazing party at my house (maybe for the Oscars?)

So we'll see what this next year brings. I'm confident that it will be wonderful

Fan of the Fit

Thanx to a very stylish stylist, Heather of Fort Worth Examiner fame, I found the perfect fitting trousers for my body. See, I have a very cylindrical shape which is great sometimes b/c all my fat is fairly evenly distributed. But, having a cylindrical shape poses problems in the fit department. I have broad shoulders and wide ribs (I'm sure this is biology helping me support the girls God gave me). My waist is thicker in proportion to my hips, which means I definitely don't have the ideal female waist to hip ratio of 0.7. Pants are most tricky due to this "imbalance". Let's examine Banana Republic's fit. In a word, ill. When I was a size 6 with everyone else (long time ago people), I was a size 8 or even 10 with Banana just so their pants would fit my waist properly. But that left a lotta excess fabric in the hip and booty. Not a good look. Many brands would fit like this to some extent. Express/Limited always did a bit better but I really think they lacked the quality I was looking for. I love wool trousers and pants and it's hard to find quality fabrics like that at decent prices, that fit well. Until now. Until Martin + Osa.

These babies are like a glove on me. And I like gloves. They are not too low waisted but low enough so they hold in the pooch below my below button. They are not tight at all on my tummy. The hips are not baggy and the pockets stay flat (always a concern with trouser style side/slash pockets). I'm a bit above average height with long legs so the longer the inseam the better. These are 34" and heels work perfectly. They fall and break just like in the pic. Did I mention that they just feel good on? Well they do.

As I stated before, Heather introduced me to the line, Martin + Osa. We went out for Sushi and she wore this amazing LBD with a wide wrap collar that she cinched at the waist with a wide belt. The details and top-stitching really made me pay attention to the dress. Anyway, she looked so great in it, I had to check out the label. I went to Martin + Osa online, of course, and they had some cute things but no dresses I was in to. I was originally bummed until I saw the pants. I actually used a 25% off code from the latest Lucky magazine so not only were they already on sale half off from $110.00 (sheeya!) but I got the extra discount. So worth it. I love them. Love them and I will be shopping them again. Thanx, HJH!

I'm trying so hard to get back to focusing on Carmen Colletti. It's hard becasue my workroom/studio is still a disaster from when I moved in! So sad but so true. Good news is, I did do a bit of organizing this weekend and I also managed to update my website with the new logo.

It is still under construction until I get some time to sew, photograph and post more of my goodies. It does link to my new etsy site so take a looksey.

I looked them up on ShopBop and gasped at the price - $275, y'all. Yes. That gold was too rich for my blood. So I continued my search for the bronzey gold sparklers and lo and behold, Bloomie's saved the day.

And you know what else...I got me a nice little 20% off these $30 glittery goodies. Yay me. Can't wait to get 'em and rock 'em to death!

I'm attending the Girltalk event tonight in Addison and I need to showcase an outfit under $100 for my dear Style Examiner friend Heather. The look below is what I came up with, but with items from my own closet. I love black and I'll mix it with any color. What do you think of the teal and brown color combo?

The top I'm wearing (almost identical to the one above) was $10 from Anthropologie. My teal cords, from Alloy, were $14.99. My wooden bangles and vintage animal clutch were gifts, but I know they were cheap, I mean, inexpensive. You'll see how closely they resemble the ones above later. I believe they were garage sale purchases. Very cute ones. The black hoops were $7 from Target and my shoes were $60 from Nine West (similar feel to the ones above).

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why I’m so happy and why I feel so blessed. I really believe it is because I have a Positive Attitude – a POSITUDE, if you will.

I’m not rich. If I never become rich, that will be fine. It would be nice but my life will still be meaningful if I don’t make a million in one fiscal year, ya know. I don’t play the lottery – money is just not super important to me. But I am actually doing well - by myself and including my husband’s income.

My marriage is excellent and I am still having a blast. We definitely had some issues before we were married but we were together for 4 years. That was plenty of time to work the kinks out. Now, I’m still me with my ego and prideful nature and he’s still his wonderful anti-social self but all is good.

I don’t live in an area that I care for all that much but I live with my husband and that makes me happy. However, I know that in the next couple of years we will move a bit closer to Dallas so I’m cool.

I don’t see my close girlfriends or my Mom as much as I would like but when we do get together, it is always a great time and I really have the best most understanding friends, ever!

My job is great – finally. Now this one is big b/c I was utterly miserable at my last job. Now, I have a great boss. I actually like what I do and have learned a great deal.

All I need a kid on my hip to make me really excited about life.

Seriously, people at work jokingly ask me if I’m on something b/c I’m always in such a good mood. And I tell them, I don’t have time to be unhappy. I’ve been there and it infests every other part of your life like a virus and I refuse to spend my days obsessing over how my life could be better. I accept it as is.

But you know what? When you do accept your life and relish contentment, you are also accepting the possibility that your life will be better and it usually gets better!

You certainly don’t have to be a Christian to have a POSITUDE. It works for me but all you need to do is believe that things are ok. Count your blessings or note how lucky you are. Think about all the people living in Rwanda or the Sudan or even the homeless people in America resigned to hide from the elements under Overpasses and share sleeping quarters with strangers at shelters (and help them in someway while you’re at it). Your life is not bad. Your life is good. I know mine is.

At least not as bad (or good) as Lindsey Lohan's publicist. I'm so intrigued. I hope it stays good and that no doldrums set in.

Super Random

If you know me, or read me, then you are aware that I have back problems. This in turn has caused me to have neck problems, which of course causes life problems. Well, finally I have relief. I bought a nice (and fairly expensive) down pillow yesterday and woke up with a moderately loose neck. I feel so much better than I have in the past year!

The pillow is from Pacific Coast and the reason I bought it is because I remembered the brand from when we stayed at the Luxor in Las Vegas. We stayed there the two nights before the wedding and then moved to Mandalay Bay for the 2 nights after. Well, I slept so well at the Luxor that I looked at the pillow tag – Pacific Coast The bed was eh.

I don’t know why it took me so long to buy a nice pillow. Price probably. I can be a cheapo sometimes. I’ve bought a couple of pillows in the last year. You know, ones specifically designed for side sleepers and back sleepers as I sleep on both. A bit of a tosser, I’d say I am. These pillows were probably in the $15.00 range and I would still have to end up putting a rolled towel under so my head wasn’t cocked down too far to one side.

But wellbeing is worth a lot so I finally just did it. So worth it. The down supports and cuddles and keeps my heavy head even. My back feels a bit better too. Ah relief. It feels great.

Pretty Personal

This is probably the most personal post I’ve ever written. I tend to keep the blog light and breezy but with the New Year, I’m feeling a bit reflective and even open. So, here goes.

I’ve gained quite a bit of weight since my youth, well I’d say since I was 25. So in 5 years I’ve gained about 25 pounds. Too much. Fortunately for me, I’ve always had great self-esteem and it really hasn’t affected me too much. This started to change recently, however.

When I was in high school, there was a very pretty girl who was a grade above me. She wasn’t especially smart or extremely popular but she was definitely one of the prettiest girls in our high school. She had these amazing blue eyes that really made her, you know. Anyway, I saw a picture of her recently and was very taken aback. She was a mere fragment of her former gorgeous self. She still has very pretty eyes but she looks so average now. She never looked average in high school. But she was thin in high school, and now, she’s average – not thin but not necessarily fat either. Just average.

The other day, I received some photos in the mail that I printed from a special event I attended. I was taken aback. I felt like a mere fragment of my former self. Please don’t take this as conceit because it is not my intention. I am not whining a la Lohan. I’ve always been told I was a pretty girl. I have a great attitude about it. Looks are not everything. I’m not too terribly vain. I don't agree with plastic surgery for the most part. But I’m keeping it real. It’s nice when people give you compliments and I’ve always received a lot of those. Until recently. I don’t need compliments b/c I’ve always been able to compliment myself (insert smiley) but it still feels different.

I guess this post is more for me. A rousing contemplation in print. I want to be, no - to feel amazing! In the end it only matters how I see myself and I haven't been giving myself butterflies lately. It has to change. I have to make a change!

Shine in '09

Happy New Year, everyone. Here's my obligatory, "I'm so sorry I'ven been so busy but I promise to blog more," line. I am so excited about this year. I'm having a girls trip to Austin this month, I will be celebrating my one year anniversary next month and we are finally serious about going on a romantic vacation/honeymoon later this year.

Right now, what I'm most excited about is the excuse or opportunity that the New Year affords in the form of shopping. I need to update my wardrobe - fa show! Updates on what I'm looking for and buying to come.

One last note, I love Philosophy's Pure Grace and Amazing Grace. I never thought I would spend over $30 on some damn lotion but that stuff is worth it. I bought some for my Christmas present to myself. Today I've been caught at work times just sniffing myself. Ahhhh.

Devils In Blue Dresses

Here are a few of mine:

1) Pink killed it at the American Music Awards.
I never fully understood her after her first album (which I know was "not her" but I loved it). The live performance of "Sober" was excellent and she rocked that dress.

2) I will not be watching the Bachelor this season.
The guy is not hot - NOT HOT and I could care less about the sensitive side of a single dad. Man up dawg.

3) Most celebrities/singers/entertainers are overrated.
Some are not but most are. America, please begin to believe that substance and talent matters more than publicity. I mean, Miley Cyrus can sing. She's talented but not to the extent that America has made her uber famous. Sorry.

4) Racist and prejudiced people are really ignorant and insecure.
It's something I've never understood. I know some stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason but since when does simple annoyance with the way a group of people may drive condone calling them weird and derogatory names? FYI - if you believe in Jesus, you are certainly a hypocrite if you are a racist - read the new testament people not just the old testament.

5) Christian Louboutin makes wonderful shoes but like celebrities, they are overrated.
And I want some bad so at least I will admit that the marketing bug is getting me. But I'm holding strong. I will...not...give in!!!

6) The celebs with the following initials do not have nice legs: RF, HD, LM and BK.
No inner calf shapeliness. Yes I'm being snarky but I'm sick of people thinking these people are perfect. There is beauty in imperfection so let's keep it real.

7) Dane Cook is not, was not and has never been funny.
I really don't even have comments for this one.

8) Everything is bigger in Texas.
But that doesn't mean it's real big - you feel me?

9) Having a nose job means you've had plastic surgery.
So many celebrities say that have not had plastic surgery but they will consider it in the future when they in fact have had nose jobs. Nose jobs count, people. Paris...you have had plastic surgery. So has my favorite actress but it's ok. I just don't understand the denials when it is obvious. Makes me think they think we are stupid. Well, maybe we are because we made Paris famous. I say we but I do not mean me.

10) Intelligence, humor and respectfulness are very important.
Are you reading this, youth of America? Of the world? Those are very important traits especially respectfulness. Stop thinking that only you matter. We all matter. I say we and I mean me!

I came across YesStyle.com via a google search of long puff sleeve cropped cardigans (which I've been unable to find what I am looking for, but I digress). It has so many items - you really won't believe it. On slight glitch is that they do not have sub categories for the plethora of items offered. But it's fun to search a new website anyway so even though it might take me two days to get through the sweaters, I have a feeling it will be worth it. I'm a bit weary of international shipping but I would be a guinea pig just because everything is so stinkin' cute.

If we wait another 2 years or so to have a kid, why can’t I get a French Bulldog? What a great Christmas present that would be… An all white Frenchie and I may name her Frenchie. Her and Tai’son would be bestest friends!!!!!!!!

The background on this is that I want a French Bulldog but we already have a Shiba Inu (that would be Tai'son) and my husband doesn't want two dogs until we move into a bigger home. However, we are not moving any time soon and in my opinion our home has plenty of space. Also, I think our dog needs a friend.

Well, my clever other half asked me, "Would you rather have a baby or a dog?" Without hesitation, I said baby but I got to thinking. We are waiting a little bit before we procreate so why can't I get a dog now? I think it's because he doesn't like bulldogs (of any kind really). He's such a dog snob.

I'm going to work him over a bit more because I want a Frenchie so bad. Bad, I tell you.

The Trestle Project

For my dining room, I want a trestle table. I've seen a lot of them lately and I am sure that this is the style I want. Here are some choices I found so far.

Nice but a bit ornate for me and my smaller-ish dining room. Versailles Collection from TheFurniture.com.

This one is starting to look better although there is something about it that says to me, "boardroom". Canterville Table from Home Decorators.

This is my favorite. It's modern, casual and impressive. Chianni Trestle Table from Ballard Designs.

Hitch: the price. Geez, I don't know why they are so expensive. I am such a cheapo except when it comes to shoes and jeans. I guess I need to broaden my tastes a bit more if I want a nice home. Not that I can't furnish my home at bargain prices but I want very specific items that seem to cost more than average. Hubs likes nice things so he doesn't mind spending more but I don't want to. I want nice for cheap. So, if anyone sees a black trestle style dining table for an unbelievable price - let me know.

Great news all around:

1) I was offered a job as a Purchasing Assistant this past week and I took the offer and started working on Wed. I really like it so far. So the company is not in the Apparel Industry but the job is great experience. I've learned so much just in the past 3 days. My boss is the buyer and I cannot tell you how cool it is to really see what goes on behind the scenes of retail buying. I'm thinking that in about 2 years or so, I can see about an Assistant Buyer position in a company that actually sells clothing! I've already had perks at the new job so I'm drooling thinking about free/discounted clothes. But I digress. I'm in the moment and really enjoy the people I work with and what I do. It feels so great b/c I really detested my last job. The company was just not a good fit for me, my skills or my personality. Thank you Lord, God Almighty!!! And Jesus!

2) I was approved to sell at the upcoming Etsy Dallas Jingle Ball. Again, so excited. It has been so long since I've done a show so I am anxious to get feedback from my customers and make some extra Christmas cash. This should be a great event for Christmas shopping so please come. There will be a wide variety of offerings from fellow Dallas artisans. I will be shopping myself.

Thanx, Shecky's. I have the curliest, kinkiest hair in America. I get my hair relaxed, maybe twice a year. I do it so infrequently b/c my hair is still extremely curly after. It's just more manageable and although I have more hair on my head than the wolfman's entire body, it's fragile and fine so I want to limit damage. But, I've had some great feedback about my curly hair so I'm glad it seems to be a trend. I can't help it so if it's more fashionable, all the better for moi!

Lambrequins in Linen

I'm finally getting around to blogging a bit about the process of making over my home. While it's not a new home, it's new to me because I just moved into it in February of 2008 (the week before I was married). So, I now have the task of taking my husband's bachelor/viking house and turning it into a warm, inviting and more importantly, stylish home.

One of my first projects was the kitchen. I'm still not finished with all the details but it's getting there.

For some silly reason, I did not take a before shot of my windows, which will be the focus of this post but here is the before color. Just contractor white or beige. Moving along to the windows.

I was looking for some inspiration and came across some great pictures of Lambrequins. The one above is from House Beautiful.

These lovely illustrations are from Jackie Blue Home.

So, I decided to make faux lambrequins just so my kitchen windows won't look so bare until we can afford really nice blinds.

I made a pattern and tested it up on the wall. By the way - the new wall color is Ralph Lauren Khaki. Love it like chocolate.

I cut out the pattern using a great linen fabric from JoAnn's clearance bin. I swear it was like $3.00 a yard and I purchased 3.5 - the rest of the bolt. Thank goodness I had enough. *Sidenote - I now have a proper cutting/project table in my studio. Yay!

Here is one of the lambrequins in place. Window treatments make such a difference. **Another sidenote - I love my ladder. Who loves a ladder?

Not sure if you can see them, but I hung them in place with silver diamond pins.

I like the look of these so much that I decided they will be part of my final decor. I am looking for either roman shandes or wood or bamboo blinds. I hate the standard white blinds but b/c I have white appliances, they work for now. Better and more complete pics to follow. I'm a busy girl you know.

The title is a weird saying when you think about it. Anyway, I thought I would post some fun reads from the blog world. Sick of the word "blogosphere" even thought I had to type it just then.

Decorno - The posts about 'Things That Are Wrong' Are especially funny and mostly true. Upon reading the Wedding Edition, I did two things wrong. Had a wedding at a predictable location (which I loved and saved us from having a huge spectacle at home so I think in the end it was very right) and going crazy over the registry. Yes, I'm older than the average just out of college bride but I did not own a blender. As a matter of fact, we still don't own one. No one bought it for us. Damn.

Vodka Has No Carbs - This blog speaks to me. I have gained so much weight but not even my wedding could get me to really try to lose it. All I had to do was fit in my dress and so that's all I did. Now I'm about 10 pounds bigger and I'm in denila. How can you gain 10 pounds in 6 months? I guess by being older (30th b-day) and lazy and in love with food. I'm gonna do better. I used to be so freakin' hot. Again, damn.

Just My Cup of Tea - This is the blog that started it all for me. Back in my Fountain of Fashion days, I read JMCOT all the time and then, I admit, I let it fall out of favor. I don't know why. I finally googled it the other day and still adore it. Fashion, little lovlies and just a personal touch from the author makes for an amusing read.

Fabric Fabulous

I'm currently obsessed with what to do for my living room curtains. I will sew them, of course, but first I need fabric. My wall paint color is Ralph Lauren Raffia and I'm probably going to do mostly black wood furniture - some lacquered with some cherry-ish wood tones as well. Also doing a bit of leopard print as an accent with some glass and silver touches as well. Sort-of French Neoclassical meets Hollywood Regency meets poor person's budget!

At first I wanted black and cream (vertical) stripe curtains like I saw on a shopping trip to the Interiors Galleria in Plano. Unfortunately they were about $200 a panel. They were so gorgeous and French and Chic. After an extensive web search, I found the exact fabric of my dreams.

100% silk black creamy gorgeousness with a 7 inch repeat. Yummy! I located it at InsideFabric.com but it was a whopping $95 a yard. Sadness all around. No luck finding a less expensive version and anyway, I was worried that even if I was able to find a less expensive version, my husband would veto it.

I did find a lovely fabric the other day from SchindlersFabrics.com.

I rec'd my swatch today and it is really nice. It is black silk dupioni with a natural woven band. And the hubs liked it. The yardage I need will be about $175 (yikes) but compared to $400 for the panels I saw at the Interiors Galleria or the $570 I would need for the fabric at InsideFabric.com, it's a good deal. I haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

Seems To Me I've Been Away Too Long

Wow have I been busy. No excuse - just for reals!!!

I was a co-host to one of my best girlfriend's baby shower and just yesterday, I celebrated my 30th birthday. That was so exciting! I had a great weekend. I had dinner with my Mom at Nobu on Friday, an afternoon party on Saturday and spent Sunday with my wonderful husband.

Also a major change I am dealing with is the decision to leave my job. It was an extremely happy decision but I still get a bit anxious about money (in the coming months). I will definitely look for another job but in the interim I am focusing on decorating/fixing up my house and building inventory (sewing) for Carmen Colletti. Hopefully, I will do a few craft/trunk shows. Again, Etsy dallas has been a great resource.

I should have a bit more time to blog now. Here's hoping...

Obligatory Sex and the City Post

***Spoiler Alert for the few who may not have seen the movie yet***

I finally saw the movie this past Saturday. I wanted to avoid the crowds of opening weekend. The movie was really great. It left me feeling very satisfied and wanting more at the same time. The characters were brought out well although I wish there was a bit more of Charlotte's life featured. I get how her life was really perfect and she finally got everything she wanted, which is great. She had been through the ringer on the show, after all. But I just love Kristin Davis and can't wait for her next project.

Hate to say it but I thought Jennifer Hudson's character was weird. Her acting wasn't all that great and I will say without a care that her wardrobe sucked. Just b/c she's got big boobs doesn't mean they had to make her look like a cow. In the scene when she said goodbye to Carrie, wasn't she supposed to have developed great style by then? So where was it? I certainly embrace my curves and am annoyed with all these size 0 actresses. I'm sure Jennifer Hudson embraces her curves as well but in SATC it was a classic example of stylists and even directors who don't know how to make a voluptuous girl look her best on film. That was disappointing. I think it's great they tried to add some color to the film but the choice of actress didn't do it for me. Joy Bryant would have been a good choice. Oh well, too late. I did love Jennifer Hudson's song. That was good.

What I did not expect was a happy ending for Carrie and I'm thrilled that her and Big sealed the deal. She did irritate me with her wedding plans. As a recent bride, I know how easy it is to let other people try and dictate your wedding and tell you what it "should" be. Again, a very realistic story line. I just really loved it and had dreams about it all weekend long. Silly, no? I don't think there should be a sequel. It was perfect the way it ended. I will be seeing it again very soon, however. That should help me with my obsession.

And the book. Yes, the book will help too!

Nest Obsessed

All I can think about is decorating and fixing up my new home. It's not actually a new home but I moved in to my husband's home when we got married earlier this year. He was really living the bachelor life. I call him my viking. But we can no longer live like vikings and Mongal wanderers. It's time for me to take the reigns and get this house ready for the entertaining season to come ahead, you know, holiday season.

My search for all things decor related brought to a really great blog today, Material Girls. One of the writer's is from Houston and the other from Dallas (Shout Out!). It's a warm and inviting blog with great resources so go check it out.

I'll make sure to post plenty of before and after pics of the crib when all is done and well styled.

This is what I wrote to Dunkin' Donuts in response to the whole Rachael Ray scarf fiasco via :

"I am so disappointed in Dunkin' Donuts. This is absurd and you should have stuck by the ad. Not all Arab people who wear this scarf are terrorists and you have now probably offended a lot of Middle Eastern people including Israelites, which is also sad. That you let a blogger start this and impact your company is so shameful and disgusting. I hope sales of this scarf go through the roof and I will be purchasing one in protest!"

Go sign it if you believe this is ridiculous as well.

Catholics Making a Come Up

So I'm really liking all the press that Catholics and the Vatican are getting lately. They are saying it's cool to believe in things beyond the Earth and that trashing the Earth is a sin. Even though I am not Catholic nor will I convert to Catholicism, I can get with that. Props for my Christian brothers.

I've always believed in God and his creating every single thing there is in the entire Universe, but I don't think we were meant to know it all. The Bible was written in a time when our world was filled with Ancient people. There was no technology. How was God supposed to relay to such a simple people that there are other planets and universes and that the Earth and its creations can evolve as he sees fit? I believe the Bible was written in a way that could be understood by the people at the time. And how amazing it is that the basic messages from the old testament (and new) are still so completely relateable today. God knew what he was doing and to me, Jesus was extremely smart in using parables so that the people would understand! As we become a more knowledgeable people, we may begin to question God but I still say, we were never meant to know all the ways of his world. Let God have his secrets. And if we are let in on more of his secrets, consider it a gift he gave to us.

I could go on but I really wanted to stress that I am glad the Vatican is embracing a more tolerant point of view about some issues and a more responsible view regarding others. And it's not about being modern, it's about embracing what is real and true. It pleases me.

*BTW - I am a very religiously tolerant person. Muslims and Buddhists are all cool in my book. Peace and love to all.

Colletti Corsages?

Last Friday, I did the weirdest thing. I made corsages for my co-worker (at work, but don't tell anyone). It took me all day long but I made 16 corsages for her Mother's Day brunch. Another secret: I've never made corsages before. I found it to be rather easy but it did require time to plan and get the creative juices flowing. I used a mix of fresh flowers and some silk fillers. I took a ton of pics. If only I could do this for a living...

I did it. I bought my first grown up bag. If you will remember from my previous post, I was looking for more of a tan or cognac color bag. It wasn't in the cards as the Faridah hobo just wasn't quite perfect enough for me to shell out more than 3 large. So, I continued my search until Bluefly came through for your girl.

Here it is, Marc by Marc Jacobs Super K Posh Turn Lock Satchel. Quite a name.

It's big, brown and bangin'. I feel like I will get a lot of use out of this bag and the price was actually ok. No buyer's remorse at all. This big bag is worth the money. Plus, in addition to the discounted price on Bluefly, I had a $15 off coupon.

American Idiot Idol

I am officially boycotting American Idol for the rest of the season. Yes, I was always aware that it tends to be a popularity contest but for two of the best singers to be in the bottom 2 was blasphemous and I was offended, as was my husband. When Carly was ousted, I was sad. The girl is so talented and her voice is a powerhouse. OMG - she's not a curly haired size 2 blonde - OMG - she's got tattoos. Who The F Cares!! She was good and way better than at least 3 of the other contestants (used that word deliberately). Anyway, I just had to vent. I hope she gets a record deal 'cuz I would buy her music.

Hibiscus Hijinks

Here are some pics of my friend Kelly's 30th birthday dinner at Hibiscus on Knox-Henderson. It's my new favorite restaurant. Loved the vibe and the food was excellent. The portions and price were good.

I sipped on an old fashioned and felt like I was part of the rack pack. It's a pretty tasty cocktail.

For my entree, I had the lemon sole. Delish. Go!

Etsy Does Dallas

I finally started selling on etsy.com and I love it. It's so geared towards crafty individuals and I feel Carmen Colletti will have a more comfortable home on Etsy versus eBay. My store is frenchrum.etsy.com, by the way.

Also, I joined EtsyDallas, which is a group for Dallasites who sell on etsy. What a great resource! I'm really excited about the upcoming event EtsyDallas is having. The Beer-B-Q on May 18th!
